On our site we will have lots of useful information to help you along the way this year...
CLASS 5/6 LEARN TOGETHER
Due to the amount of fantastic work the children have been putting into their SATs work, we have continued to work with our Extreme Earth topic.
Science – Evolution and inheritance - We will recognise that living things have changed over time and that fossils provide information about living things that inhabited the Earth millions of years ago. Also we will be identifying how animals and plants are adapted to suit their environment in different ways and that adaptation may lead to evolution. We are continuing this onto Animals and Humans topic where we will be studying life expectance, changes within humans and animals over time and habitats.
Topic – Extreme Earth – Within this geography based topic we are studying all the physical land structures, both on the ground and underneath, that make the world magnificent. Prepare yourself for volcanoes, tsunamis, tornados and the like!
PE- This half term we are luckily to be working with FA qualified coaches with a course of football skills.
D&T – We will be focussing on structures, particularly earthquake proof structures.
Music – Using percussion instruments to create weather themed compositions.

As it is national poetry week, in Literacy we have been working on our poetry skills. To generate lots of ideas, we wrote down our 'floating' item (that we were writing about) on an aeroplane as well as our names. Then we threw the plane, each time picking up someone elses and adding different pieces of vocab or short phrases to it. Over the course of the lesson we each had the vocabulary for our poems.
Keep an eye on the website to see some finished pieces.
In PE, we have been extremely lucky to have a specialist teacher from St Wilfrids High School. Miss Sinclair has been teaching us different aspects of floor and equipment work in gymnastics. We have learnt what counter balance and counter tension is. Counter Balance is where two people create a balance using each other’s body weight in order to balance. If one person is removed, the balance will not work. Counter tension is very similar to counter balance however instead of leaning away to balance; you lean towards your partner, supporting each other to balance.
Like promised on the newsletter, here's how much fun we had at our Christmas Party!
Here are a few snaps from Robin Wood....Without giving too much away!
Well done to Millie Hollis who has taken our 'Extreme Earth' topic to another level and created a composition on the violin named 'The Flood'.
Check it out below!
Here Finley has created a 'Earthquake Proof' house.
More details to follow soon...
Flynn created a 'pod' that people could move into in the unlikely event of a tsunami.
